Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my child needs these services?

If something feels off, it’s worth exploring. Many of the families we work with come to us because their child is capable but not progressing as expected, or because learning has started to feel frustrating. A conversation can help bring clarity and determine whether support would be beneficial.

If your child currently has an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or other support plan, we can work to provide additional, critical support at home.

What makes Galileo Growth different from traditional tutoring?

Our work is highly individualized and grounded in research-based instruction. Rather than helping students get through assignments, we focus on building the underlying skills that make learning easier, more intuitive, and more sustainable over time.

What is it like to get started?

We begin with a thoughtful intake process to understand your child’s learning profile, current needs, and goals. We then have an individualized assessment session, which guides us in creating our report and intervention plan. From there, we recommend a personalized plan and guide you through the next steps with clarity and care.

How quickly will I see progress?

Every child’s timeline is different, but many families begin to notice shifts in confidence, engagement, and understanding within the first several weeks. Our focus is on meaningful, lasting progress rather than quick fixes.

What is the investment?

Services are offered on a private, one-on-one basis and are priced accordingly. Rates vary depending on the level of support and scope of work. We’re happy to share details and walk you through options during an initial conversation.

Do you offer ongoing support or short-term help?

We offer both. Some families come to us for targeted support around specific goals, while others choose ongoing work to build strong, lasting foundations. We will help you determine the approach that best fits your child.

Services & Approach
What is Orton-Gillingham and does Galileo Growth use it?+
Orton-Gillingham is a structured, multisensory approach to literacy instruction widely recognized as the gold standard for students with dyslexia and reading difficulties. It engages auditory, visual, and kinesthetic systems simultaneously to strengthen the connection between sounds, letters, and words. Claire Osman is certified in Orton-Gillingham methodology and uses it as a core component of Galileo Growth's literacy intervention program in Orange County.
What is LETRS certification?+
LETRS stands for Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling. It is a professional development program that provides educators with deep knowledge of the Science of Reading, including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Claire Osman holds LETRS certification and applies its principles throughout Galileo Growth's literacy intervention.
How do I find a reading specialist for my child in Orange County?+
Galileo Growth offers certified literacy intervention in Orange County using Orton-Gillingham and Science of Reading approaches. If your child is struggling with decoding, spelling, reading fluency, or comprehension despite classroom instruction, a certified reading specialist can help identify the root cause and build a targeted intervention plan. Claire Osman, MA, Ed.S., designs a custom scope and sequence for each student at Galileo Growth based on their unique learning profile.
Does Galileo Growth offer tutoring and homework help?+
Yes. Galileo Growth provides tutoring and homework support for K-12 students across all core academic areas in addition to our specialized intervention services. Our tutors are credentialed educators who can help with daily assignments, test preparation, and general academic reinforcement. For students who need support beyond tutoring, Claire Osman, MA, Ed.S., can assess whether a more structured intervention plan would benefit your child and design one accordingly. Many families start with tutoring and transition into targeted intervention as needs become clearer.
Does Galileo Growth offer math intervention?+
Yes. Galileo Growth provides structured, evidence-based math intervention focused on building conceptual understanding, number sense, and problem-solving fluency. The program uses multisensory strategies to make abstract reasoning concrete and accessible. Instruction is calibrated to each learner's profile and designed to build both mathematical competence and confidence.
IEPs, 504 Plans & Advocacy
How do I know if my child needs an IEP?+
If your child is not making adequate academic progress despite classroom interventions, or if they have a diagnosed learning disability, they may qualify for an Individualized Education Program (IEP). Galileo Growth provides comprehensive IEP consultation for Orange County families, including independent assessment, document review, and guidance through the special education process. Claire Osman can help you determine whether to request an evaluation from your school district.
What is the difference between an IEP and a 504 plan?+
An IEP (Individualized Education Program) provides specialized instruction and related services for students with disabilities under IDEA, while a 504 plan provides accommodations under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. An IEP includes specific measurable goals and progress monitoring, while a 504 plan focuses on removing barriers through accommodations. Claire Osman helps Orange County families understand which plan best serves their child and advocates for appropriate services through Galileo Growth.
Can a private educational consultant attend IEP meetings with me?+
Yes. Parents have the right to bring an advocate or consultant to IEP meetings. Galileo Growth provides IEP consultation and advocacy services including meeting attendance, document review, classroom observation, and facilitated communication between families and schools. Claire Osman ensures your child's educational plan genuinely reflects their needs and includes every service and accommodation they are entitled to receive.
Does Galileo Growth provide independent educational assessments?+
Galileo Growth provides comprehensive assessment and record review as part of the intake and goal-setting process. Claire Osman evaluates each student's learning profile, identifies skill gaps and root causes, and uses the results to design structured intervention plans. For formal psychoeducational or neuropsychological evaluations, Galileo Growth maintains a referral network of trusted specialists across Orange County.
Getting Started
How does the process work at Galileo Growth?+
Every engagement begins with an initial consultation where Claire Osman discusses your child's history, challenges, and goals. From there, we conduct an assessment to identify the student's learning profile and specific areas of need. Based on the results, Claire designs an individualized intervention plan with clear objectives and a structured scope and sequence. Sessions are delivered by Claire or a member of her team, with continuous progress monitoring and regular parent communication.
Does Galileo Growth accept a limited number of families?+
Yes. To maintain the level of individualized attention each student deserves, Galileo Growth works with a limited number of families per quarter. Claire Osman personally oversees program design for every student. We recommend scheduling a consultation early to discuss availability and fit.
Are sessions available in-home or online?+
Galileo Growth offers both in-home and virtual sessions for families across Orange County. The format is determined based on the student's needs, the family's preference, and the nature of the intervention. Many families use a combination of both.
How do I schedule a consultation with Galileo Growth?+
You can schedule an initial consultation by emailing Claire Osman directly at claire@galileogrowth.com or by visiting the contact page at galileogrowth.com. During the consultation, Claire will discuss your child's needs, review any existing documentation, and recommend next steps.
